From the book to the streets: editorial design
From the Book to the Streets is the centre point of my second year editorial design project. It involved designing both the interior spreads and the book cover, with a strong emphasis on layout, the use of image, and typographic choices.
Although this was my second time designing page spreads, this was my first time designing a cover. I chose to keep the cover minimal and reflect its content through the colour and type choices, creating a contemporary response to the subject matter It was also my first time creating page spreads with imagery, which added a new level of thinking into my choices.

About the design
Brief
Using a consistent baseline grid, design and typeset the copy, contents, prelims and end-matter for From the book to the streets, a series of typographic essays.
Design
I created a two column system that utilised traditional academic text design choices. The design uses a sans serif typeface exclusively for the cover, and two serif typefaces for hierarchy inside the book.
Result
A contemporary cover that pays tribute to traditional printing presses by using display type in the traditional printing colours, with imagery and copy evenly distributed throughout the book.
